Vila Lojo(map) is located in golfer´s paradise Vilamoura and walking distance from Browns sport- and leisure centre. Vilamoura is the name given to an area rather than to any actual town, developed into one of the largest single tourist complex in Europe and covers some 2.000 hectares of land (5000 acres!!). The land is variable in its vegetation, some parts covered in pine forests whilst others open recovered marshland. Vilamoura´s Marina
The Marina is enormous and hosts some glamorous vessels indeed. The waterfront is great for wandering around day or night. Either side of the marina are sandy beaches with several cafes and bars. With this fabulous marina, Vilamoura naturally offers all types of water sports, from to deep-sea fishing, parasailing, sailing, water-skiing, jet skiing, scuba diving - you name it. A number of boats, including The Condor de Vilamoura, run day-long coastal cruises all the way towards Lagos and beyond. Big game fishing is also on the cards. A boat chartered from Vilamoura in 1993 caught the world's largest recorded black marlin - 737kg and 3.65m long! It's displayed on the dockside. Round the marina are innumerous shops, bars, and restaurants set along wide esplanades. The resort also has its own casino with night-club, which rivals in sophistication anything offered elsewhere in Europe. Golf in Vilamoura
Golf is definitively the most popular sport in the Algarve, no wonder when realizing the climatologically conditions all year round and the exceptional beauty of lay outs (most of them by famous international golf architects) and surroundings. Read below a selection of 5 excellent golf courses in your immediate region out of the Algarve' approximately 35 golf courses; (1) The Old Course, designed by Frank Pennink, was opened in 1969 and is, without doubt, one of the internationally best-known of Portugal's courses, in particular for the exceptional way in which it blends with the landscape and for its clever use of topography. The redesign and modernization of the course by the English company Hawtree & Sons have restored the magnificent playing conditions that have made The Old Course world famous. All the holes at The Old Course have their own distinctive characteristics which make them easy to remember.(2) The Millennium Golf Course was designed by English architect, Martin Hawtree, and opened in May 2000. A great deal of forethought went into the planning and Millennium course is surely destined to become one of the most attractive courses built to date in Portugal. In a beautiful setting within the pinewoods and natural countryside, it has a layout that offers variety and interest for the golfer.
